Green Thumbs @ AHE Pre-primary School

On Friday, August 23, 2024, Acts House of Education Pre-Primary School welcomed a special visit from Sibayeni Metrofarming, who introduced the young learners to the innovative world of hydroponic farming. This modern farming technique, which involves growing plants without soil by using nutrient-rich water, captivated the children's curiosity.

The team from Sibayeni Metrofarming engaged the students in an interactive and educational session, explaining how plants can thrive without traditional soil. They demonstrated the essential components of hydroponic farming, including plant support structures, nutrient solutions, and a variety of plants such as spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers. One of the learners said that they loved seeing how big the spinach grows without any soil. Another child said that they didn’t even know that you could farm without using soil.

The highlight of the visit was when the children were shown some of the fresh spinach and peppers grown on Sibayeni's farm. Each child was then given the opportunity to plant their own spinach seedling, allowing them to get hands-on experience with this sustainable farming method. The excitement was palpable as the young learners eagerly participated in planting and learning about the future of farming.

The visit not only provided a fun and engaging experience but also inspired the children to think about agriculture in new and innovative ways. It was a day filled with discovery, learning, and a newfound appreciation for the environment.
