On August 12th, 2024, Acts House of Education held its highly anticipated annual Career Day, where six exceptional professionals volunteered their time and expertise to guide and inspire our students. The event was a resounding success, offering invaluable insights into various career paths and life beyond the classroom.The day kicked off with Lizaan Tait, an expert in Investment and Asset Management, who shared her experiences in the financial world. Her talk provided students with a deeper understanding of how investment decisions shape our economy and personal financial stability. Lizaan emphasized the importance of working hard to establish yourself in any industry and encouraged students to consider careers in finance.
“I was not interested in Commerce at all, but after Ms Tait spoke to us, I became interested in Investment Management. Exposure to different career fields has been an eye-opener,” shared Calum Magerman, Head Boy of the High school. Following Lizaan was Jacques Blignaut, a well-known professional actor, who captivated the audience with his journey in the entertainment industry. His session was filled with anecdotes about the challenges and triumphs of an actor’s life. Jacques highlighted the importance of resilience and passion in pursuing a career in the arts. Next up, Ps. Mikey Irwin, a pastor and community leader, took the stage. His session focused on the importance of community involvement and leadership. Ps. Mikey’s talk was not only about career guidance but also about the significance of values, faith, and giving back to society. His words resonated deeply with students, inspiring them to consider the impact they can have on their communities. Our next speakers consisted of six Masters and PHD students studying under, Dr Musa Mansa, a distinguished geophysicist and lecturer at Wits University. Their presentation offered a fascinating glimpse into the world of geophysics and its role in understanding our planet. They encouraged students to pursue science and research, emphasizing the role of curiosity and innovation in driving progress.Thereafter, Masego More, a dynamic professional in agriculture, mechanical engineering, and entrepreneurship, energised the room with her diverse career journey. Masego’s talk highlighted the possibilities within interdisciplinary careers and the importance of adaptability in the modern workforce. She encouraged students to explore their interests and take bold steps toward achieving their dreams. The day concluded with a captivating session from professional photographer Josh Biya. Josh shared his creative process and the business aspects of photography. His session was particularly engaging for students interested in visual arts and entrepreneurship, as he discussed the importance of storytelling through images and building a brand. “To be able to see Photography & Film Study in practice as shared by professionals was amazing because you don’t really get exposed to it in everyday life and we gained insight into what it means to study the Arts,” said Jessica Morgan, the Head Girl of the High school. Overall, the Career Day was a significant success, leaving students motivated and informed about the diverse career opportunities available to them. Acts House of Education extends heartfelt thanks to all the speakers for their time and dedication. Their willingness to share their experiences has enriched our students' understanding of the world beyond school and has made our institution the supportive and inspiring environment it is today.
